Yesterday I watched a French movie called 'Summertime'. It's about 2 women who struggle to have a lesbian relationship in the 70's. It was good but made me sad :(

Young & Wild (2012) - http://www.imdb.com/title/tt2125698/

Love this film. Can't believe how underrated it is.

And it's on Netflix, at least in my country...

Tomboy (2011) - http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1847731/

Appropriate Behavior (2014) - http://www.imdb.com/title/tt3077108/

pretty nice, but not great.

Show Me Love (1998) - http://www.imdb.com/...ref_=fn_al_tt_1

very cute Swedish movie from great director Lukas Moodysson

Personal Best (1982) - http://www.imdb.com/...?ref_=nv_sr_1es

it approaches bisexuality in a very natural way, especially if we consider it's a movie from the 80's

Water Lilies (2007) - http://www.imdb.com/...7/?ref_=nv_sr_1

Mädchen in Uniform (1931) - http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0022183/

Stranger by the Lake (2013) - http://www.imdb.com/title/tt2852458/

and I can't wait to see The Handmaiden...

EDIT

Female Perversions (1996) - http://www.imdb.com/...3/?ref_=nv_sr_1

Showgirls (1995) - http://www.imdb.com/...ref_=fn_al_tt_1

Paul Verhoeven is awesome. Imdb voters know nothing :P

I have a lot of binge watching to do

Elena undone is my favorite. I liked Carol, based off the book the price of salt. I also liked cloudburst because it was about a more mature relationship and Olympia Dukakis wonderful. Reaching for the moon is a true story. Tru love was good. Love the girl with the dragon tattoo trilogy. It isnt about sex but Lisbeth is bisexual and the movies are damn good. Theres one I cant remember the title...but a woman is in a controlling marriage and becomes enamored by a woman who owns a local restaurant. She teaches the married woman to drive. Help me out if you know.

Theres also Gia...because...Angelina jolie

Boys dont cry is good but tragic

Honorable mentions:

Loving Annabelle

Chasing Amy

Blue is the warmest color (because of THAT scene)

Perfect ending

The four faced liar

I may edit if I think of more.

Oh my God..how could I forget the color purple?? I know every stinking word. I would suggest the book though

Its much more lesbian than the movie.

Used to idealize I Can't Think Straight. Until I used that movie in a relationship and then found myself in a similar situation which I didn't feel like acting on... oops

Moonlight. It's so layered, so sad, so intense, and is a perfect illustration of the sexual identity complexities African Americans struggle with. It's one of the first movies I can say I feel like I can identify with. All the the things that led up to one finding out who they really are........ It touches on child on child sexual abuse, abusive parents, bisexuality, curiosity, love/ first loves, abstinence, and long-lost love. So many subjects. It's sad, and beautiful.

That's an interesting point, are there even any other movies amongst the ones we mentioned in this thread that are focused on African American characters?

@DIYQueen have you seen Pariah? If so, how do you think it compared with Moonlight in addressing the additional complexities for an African American coming out? Also for documentaries there was The New Black which examined the perspectives of African American campaigners on both sides of the issue when Maryland was debating legality of same gender marriage (changing terminology due to a wonderful workshop I attended over the weekend.)

I'm not sure how you could get it now but I LOVED 'If These Walls Could Talk 2' years ago. Has Ellen Degeneres and Sharon Stone as a couple in one of the storylines. Also includes Vanessa Redgrave and Chloe Sevigny. Worth checking out if you can!

There are plenty, but one that comes to mind at the moment is Desert Hearts. Loved that one.
