Anyone else been assaulted for being with a same sex partner?

Recommended Posts

Basically i was on a weekend away with my gf. After breakfast we were holding hands and walking. Then suddenly this Indigenous woman (native Australian woman who is also of brown skin) walking past calls us "faggots" . We let go of each others hands and she keeps on punching us like she is high on something). She punches me on the back and my gf on her face and her fingers. Luckily she steps back so it just brushes her face but when she is protecting herself with her fingers another punch hits her hard. The next day we find out she has a fracture. She also calls us brown "nig****" and asks us to go back from her country.

I feel guilty because she came all the way from the UK to see me and we had a weekend away in a small coastal town called the Entrance. We reported this to the police. They said the area was known for high ice use and that i would have to come to court for the matter to go forward. I asked about surveillance cameras in the area. They said they will check it out but they might not be working.

I regret not making a video of this or doing more in the moment. I was just shocked how someone could all of a sudden be triggered into violence. This lady looked like a normal person at a distance.

I regret not being racist back to her because she deserves to know what it feels like. I could have said go back to Africa. Your country was a wasteland before people migrated here from around the world. Or actually could have said you could have roots in my country of origin. I hate free passes given to racial minorities because of all the issues they have been through. Indigenous people in Australia have been through a lot but they cant keep using the past to be responsible for their current actions. I am ethnically Indian we have been through colonialism and things but we learnt to mostly prosper not use our past or turn to drug use en masse. I dont really talk about being Indian because Ive lived in Australia all my life. Racism and homophobia here does piss me off. The last time someone asked us to go back to our country they called us "Muslim c**** and said to go back to my country" Firstly im of Hindu background and i wanted to say to that guy "Why don't you go back to England and learn some manners." I could have said a lot more.

I did call her an unemployed bitch while she was running away and i feel proud of that.

Then this guy from Brisbane posted on my fb page that we deserved being beaten up because we held hands and imposed our gay choice on people.
Brisbane is kind of like the one of the most regressive places in Australia.

Sometimes i feel over the level of ignorance and stupidity in this country

A part of me and i feel guilty about this thinks if i was in a straight relationship maybe this wouldnt happen. But i think how amazing my gf is and i forget that thought

Sorry if what i said offends people. Its the feelings i feel for being gay and racist bashed.

I also am closeted to my family so cant really talk about it. I mentioned it to my brother and he said we should be careful holding hands and who is around. That could be protectiveness or it could just be indian/south asian homophobia and victim blaming.

It also sucks to be all thesemultiple identities but i cant do much about it except be angry.  Maybe i should have posted this on the rant section

The ignorance of some people is unfortunately alive and well. I haven't personally been the victim of physical abuse like that suffered by you and your girlfriend, but I have been verbally abused. I was dating one particular girl when we were walking along a river bank, holding hands and just generally talking. This was in England. A guy happened to pass us, overheard our obvious Welsh accents and yelled that we're a pair of sick lesbian sheep-shaggers! For those who may not know, a sheep-shagger is a racist, derogatory remark made by English people towards the Welsh. He then began to scream with absolute rage saying that it's disgusting how two people of the same sex can behave like that in public and that all forms of homosexuality should be outlawed. Fortunately a group of people close by told him to calm down and stop shouting obscenities in public.

Sorry to hear that happened to you. Thats disgusting and where do they get these insults from like sheep shagger. Do they not know sheep can be heterosexual as well? Sorry you had that racist remark said to you.  He seems to be a frustrated homophobic and racist guy who rages against same sex relationships on the streets but watches lesbian porn at night. I am happy that there were some decent people nearby who asked him to stop. We didnt have any bystanders. Felt a bit lonely there. I am always surprised by how much rage people can get just by seeing 2 people being loving towards each other. Its like they dont have love or hope in their lives and they want others to be the same.

When this happens i am always indecisive about whether i should insult in the same way or if that would make them more violent and i should just get out of that situation
