What Tv Shows Do You Remember From Your Childhood?

73 posts in this topic

So as I have (had) six long weeks of 'Holiday' AKA nothing to do really...

I've been rediscovering some old TV favs...such as the classic 'The Mysterious Cities of Gold'

So what TV show defined your childhood???

Like this if you can also remember 'Press Gang', 'Mr Ben'...'Dogtanian'... 'Round the Twist'...Oh so many more.

Two staples throughout my formative years:

Top of the Pops - every Thursday, then Friday, then Sunday.

Danger Mouse (with the wonderful David Jason, as the voice of DM).

Never missed Top of the Pops, even had my *tape recorder* tape the show so I could listen to it after. Had forgotten the mysterious cities of gold, really loved that show as well. Used to love sunday afternoon when the old Doris Day films were on or a musical Hello Dolly etc.

I'm showing my age here... but I adored the camp hare "Hartley Hare" from Pipkins... the sexual innuendos..... you wouldnt realise this when your 5. This still makes me laugh!

And of course there was Rainbow......

^ "Paint the whole world with a rainbow..." *drum break* :)

Loved Top of the Pops - so sad it isn't being shown any more but I'm loving the reruns from first 1976 and 1977 on BBC4. Doctor Who was a favourite (love the RTD era now), and loved The Goodies, The Magic Roundabout, The Wombles, Danger Mouse (so funny!) and anything from the wonderful Oliver Postgate/Peter Firmin team (Noggin the Nog, The Clangers and many others).

I used to record the chart on a sunday to listen to it all week!

Me too! And I used to write the chart for the week, as it was announced on Sundays! I think I still have the lists, somewhere...

Great choices, all. I loved The Muppet Show - it was extremely popular with all age ranges, it was so witty.

Does anyone remember:

The Mole (very melancholy cartoon, from Czechoslovakia IIRC), and Tomfoolery (inspired cartoon show based around the works of Edward Lear and CS Lewis)?
